Student Scuba Diving

Puerto Rico is an island paradise for adventure activities, providing an experiential classroom for exploration both on land and in the water. With all areas of the island accessible in under three hours, there are no limits on the possibilities. The island is about 100 miles long by 35 miles wide, making it easy to reach and explore any part of the island in the course of a day trip. Each adventure activity or day trip is an experiential opportunity to learn first-hand about the environment, vegetation, animal life, history or culture of the area. All activities or day trips are supplemented with instruction that enhances the learning experience.

Pacia Puerto Rico’s student life mentors combine their outdoor adventure safety expertise with that of local guides and instructors to create experiences that are as safe as they are exciting. Each activity is designed to challenge students, teach teamwork, build relationships, and increase students’ experiential knowledge of Puerto Rico.

Adventure Activities

Sizing up the surf...

Water-based activities, including supervised surfing, paddle-boarding, sea kayaking, scuba diving and snorkeling, form the core adventure activities offered by Surfhouse Puerto Rico. These activities are used as a vehicle for building confidence and self-esteem. They also offer therapeutic benefits by building physical prowess and opening the student’s eyes to the impact that sports and the outdoors on their overall well-being. Few young people in the States have the opportunity to become really good at any of these sports, but with time in the water almost every day students improve their skill and with it their confidence and self-esteem.

The beaches near Rincon are known for their surfing, especially the half-dozen reef-lined Atlantic beaches favored by skilled surfers from all over the world. Rincon is a small peninsula off the west coast of Puerto Rico. It has nine named surfing spots on the south side, seven named spots on the north side, and many unnamed in between. All these spots are within walking distance and deliver different wave shapes and sizes, from 2 feet to 40 feet, or beginner to expert. With Rincon’s variety and consistency of waves, student surfers switch between surf spots and enjoy fun, friendly waves or challenge themselves with larger waves as their skill increases.

In conjunction with these water activities, as part of the core academic curriculum, students study oceanography / marine biology three days per week, learning about the tides, plants and ocean animals.
